Nigeria’s national team captain, William Troost-Ekong, has shared insights into his decision to join the Saudi Pro League club, Al-Khaloood.

William Troost-Ekong’s decision to leave Greek Super League champions PAOK for the Saudi Pro League side came as a surprise to most of his fans due to his good form.

The defender revealed that talks about his move to the oil-rich country had initially surfaced during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

Troost-Ekong expressed that the offer from Saudi Arabia was too enticing to decline, emphasizing the need to prioritize his future, especially at 31 years old.

Speaking on the Counter Attack Podcast, the former Watford defender said, “I got an offer I couldn’t turn down. I am 31, now I have to think about the big picture.”

Additionally, William Troost-Ekong highlighted the competitive nature of the Saudi Pro League and pointed out that in his first game, he played against renowned players.

He also emphasized the opportunities the league offered in securing his future and considering the well-being of his family and kids.

“I think the Saudi Premier League is competitive; you see the names that are playing there in my first game were Benzema, Kante, Fabinho, players that are world level,” Troost-Ekong said.
