Spurs boss questions Refereeing parameters after Leeds win and red card controversy
Tottenham Hotspur head coach Roberto De Zerbi offered a frank post-match assessment following his side’s 1-0 defeat to Leeds United at Elland Road, according to the Yorkshire Evening.
Substitute Noah Okafor netted the decisive 79th-minute winner for the hosts shortly after coming on. De Zerbi acknowledged a tale of two halves, noting Spurs failed to capitalize on early chances before faltering after the break.
“In the first half we played, okay, not the best game but we were alive, we were attacking, we had two or three clear chances to score and we didn’t suffer anything,” De Zerbi said.
“In the second half, I don’t know why but we suffered too much and we deserved to lose.”He added: “We didn’t win any duels, we didn’t win any one-to-ones… We didn’t show personality or show what we are, who we are.”
De Zerbi also questioned refereeing consistency following a first-half VAR check on Jayden Bogle’s challenge: “I don’t know if it was a red card or not on Mathys Tel but for sure Pedro Porro yellow card and why I am telling it like this is because the parameters of the referee were not good enough I think for both situations.”
