Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan loses husband
According to a BBC report, Hafidh Ameir Hassan, husband of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, has died while receiving treatment at a hospital in Zanzibar. Vice-President Deogratius Ndejembi announced the death, saying Ameir had suffered from a heart condition and passed away at 08:00 local time on Monday at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are under way in Kizimkazi, Zanzibar. Ameir, an agricultural academic, kept a low public profile and became Tanzania’s first First Gentleman when Hassan took office in 2021. The couple married in 1978 and had four children. Kenyan President William Ruto offered condolences, calling him a “distinguished son” of Tanzania.
