Tebas defends propaganda remarks as Real Madrid demand resignation
La Liga president Javier Tebas has defended his controversial decision to compare Real Madrid’s media communication strategy to Nazi-era propaganda techniques, resisting calls for his resignation from the Spanish club, as reported by Madrid Universal.
In a public statement released on X, Tebas insisted his comments targeted the communication tactics used by Real Madrid TV rather than the club’s supporters or political ideology.
To back his position, Tebas cited a journalism course syllabus from the University of La Laguna examining the modern application of Joseph Goebbels’ propaganda principles. He argued that Madrid’s media repeatedly highlights selected refereeing incidents and constructs a permanent enemy.
The comments have sparked significant controversy across Spanish football, with Real Madrid demanding Tebas step down and Spain’s Higher Sports Council (CSD) reportedly weighing potential disciplinary action. Tebas remains defiant, arguing that demanding his resignation fails to address his criticisms.
