Ted Cruz turns on Iran war after Republican midterm losses: “It needs to end”
Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas has criticised the Iran war and President Donald Trump’s tariffs after Republicans lost control of Congress in the midterms, HuffPost UK reports.
In a statement on X, Cruz said: “Tariffs have made everything too expensive, and the Iran war has dragged on too long. It should have been brief, decisive, and over. It needs to end, and we should never, under any circumstances, give the Ayatollah billions of dollars.” He did not name Trump.
Cruz called the result a “blue tsunami” and a “Watergate-level repudiation,” saying “too many Republican politicians seem like they didn’t understand or they didn’t care” about the rising cost of living.
Trump started the war in February, when he agreed with Israel to strike Tehran. Iran effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, pushing up fuel and grocery prices. Vice President JD Vance has said the “reason we lost is the war.”
