‘The poor continues to suffer’: Amaechi says only a tiny group is benefiting under Tinubu’s govt
Former Transportation Minister and African Democratic Congress Vice Presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi has declared that Nigeria’s independence has largely failed ordinary citizens, with only a privileged few benefiting from the country’s wealth while the poor continue to suffer — a situation he says has worsened under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
According to Daily Post, Amaechi made the remarks on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Friday, as Nigerians marked the country’s 66th Independence Day.
“The real people benefiting from this so-called independence is the rich. The poor continues to suffer, and it’s worse in Tinubu’s government,” the ADC vice presidential candidate said.
He went further, expressing doubt that even Nigeria’s wealthy class was broadly benefiting, suggesting that prosperity had narrowed to an exclusive circle around the current administration.
“I doubt that even the rich is benefiting. It’s just a group of persons that are just benefitting from this government,” he said.
