‘There was no game!’ Amorim fumes after Milan’s 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth
Ruben Amorim criticised the circumstances surrounding AC Milan’s 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth in the Europa League, insisting his side never had a fair opportunity to compete after an early penalty and Mike Maignan’s dismissal. According to GOAL, Bournemouth took the lead through Justin Kluivert after Koni De Winter conceded a penalty for handball.
Milan’s situation worsened in the 28th minute when goalkeeper Maignan was sent off for pushing Tyler Adams in the face during a corner. Marcus Tavernier converted the resulting penalty to double Bournemouth’s advantage.Omari Hutchinson was substituted to allow reserve goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani to enter as Milan struggled to reorganise.
Amine Adli completed the hosts’ victory with a late free-kick, leaving the Italian side facing further pressure in Europe.Speaking after the match, Amorim said: “The penalty on the corner and the red card changed everything, so it was not a game. It was not a game.”He added: “We didn’t have time to recover from the first penalty. We tried to push in the end, but the third goal made it even harder for us.”
Amorim insisted individual errors, rather than squad rotation, were responsible for the defeat. Milan must now regroup ahead of their Serie A meeting with Udinese.
