‘They can f* off’ — Coach under Guardiola defies Premier League over medals
A former Manchester City coach who worked under Pep Guardiola has angrily rejected the possibility of surrendering his medals following the club’s guilty verdict over financial rule breaches.
According to the Daily Mirror, City were found guilty of 114 of 115 charges relating to alleged financial irregularities between 2009 and 2018.
The unidentified coach, quoted by The Times, responded defiantly to suggestions that the club could be stripped of titles.
“If they [the Premier League] think they are getting my medals back, they can f*** off.”
City have appealed the verdict and continue to maintain their innocence, with a final decision expected before Christmas.
Guardiola, who left the club last summer, reassured supporters that they “will get through this together.”
Another former staff member reportedly expressed confidence that City would avoid severe punishment.
“We won’t get done. Maybe a fine or something. Nothing more serious than that.”
Potential sanctions include financial penalties, points deductions, relegation or the stripping of titles.
City won three Premier League titles during the period under investigation.
Manchester United and Liverpool could potentially benefit if those titles were retrospectively withdrawn, although no sanctions have been finalised.
