Tielemans explains why he left Aston Villa for Manchester United
Manchester United midfielder Youri Tielemans has explained his decision to leave Aston Villa, saying the Old Trafford club represents a step above his former side, according to The Punch. The Belgium international completed a £35 million move after United triggered his release clause. Tielemans revealed United had previously considered signing him in 2019 and 2022, but neither opportunity materialised.
The 29-year-old said he was focused on Belgium’s World Cup campaign before United activated his clause. He praised Villa for helping revive his career but said joining United represents a major achievement. Tielemans now wants to establish himself at Old Trafford and help the club compete for major honours.
