Tinubu attends premiere of MKO Abiola documentary in Lagos
President Bola Tinubu on Thursday attended the Lagos premiere of MKO, a documentary chronicling the life and legacy of late Moshood Abiola.
The premiere was held at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts ahead of the film’s nationwide cinema release on Friday.
Directed by Nigerian-American filmmaker Ose Oyamendan, MKO revisits Abiola’s political career, the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election, his detention and the pro-democracy struggle that followed.
Tinubu attended alongside First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and several governors and officials.
The documentary, which premiered internationally at Sheffield DocFest in June 2026, combines archival materials with first-hand accounts from figures connected to the June 12 era.
