President Bola Tinubu has approved 18-month tenure extensions for the heads of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

The affected officials are Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, Controller-General of NCoS, and Kemi Nanna Nandap, Comptroller-General of NIS.

According to Daily Trust, the approval was announced Monday in a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga.

Under the arrangement, Nwakuche will remain in office until May 26, 2028, while Nandap’s tenure will expire on June 30, 2028.

Onanuga explained that the extensions followed recommendations from Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo to address succession gaps and allow sufficient time to appoint replacements.

“President Tinubu commended Nwakuche and Nandap for the reforms achieved under their leadership and charged them to consolidate these gains,” the statement said.

Nwakuche was nominated in December 2024 and confirmed in March 2025, while Nandap was nominated in February 2024 and confirmed the following month.

Both officials will continue overseeing their respective agencies throughout the extended period.
