Tinubu set to table 2027 budget before 2026 closes
President Bola Tinubu is expected to present the 2027 Appropriation Bill to the National Assembly before the end of 2026, Channels TV reports.
The Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning, Doris Uzoka-Anite, disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing State House correspondents on outcomes of the Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by Tinubu.
She said the FEC had officially endorsed the National Development Plan 2026–2030, alongside new legal frameworks designed to tackle child stunting and boost national food security, including a Revised National Policy on Food and Nutrition (2026) aimed at strengthening inter-ministerial collaboration across agriculture, health, education and development partners.
Uzoka-Anite made the disclosure while reflecting on the conclusion of the 32nd Nigerian Economic Summit held in Abuja from October 26 to 28.
Separately, Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele clarified that the $21.7 billion borrowing proposal transmitted to the National Assembly represents a multi-year investment plan spanning roughly five years, not an immediate drawdown for spending.
He said $10.6 billion of the plan is earmarked for critical transport projects, including the Sokoto–Badagry Highway, Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, and the Kano–Kaduna Metro Rail, with over $7.9 billion to be sourced from multilateral and bilateral partners, led by $5 billion from the World Bank at an average interest rate of about 2.1 per cent.
Oyedele added that $3.3 billion is earmarked for state government projects, with a further $1.45 billion allocated to the Federal Capital Territory.
