Tinubu’s econonic policies killed my mother— Amaechi jokes

Share:

African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi sparked controversy after jokingly linking his mother’s death to President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies during an interview on Channels Television, as reported by PM News

When asked directly if the administration’s policies were responsible, Amaechi responded, “Of course, before Tinubu, my mother was healthy. He later clarified the remark was a joke rather than a literal claim, while criticizing broader economic hardships and rising living costs facing Nigerian households.

Challenged about his own responsibility for her welfare, Amaechi pushed back, stating, “Do I have a choice? Do you know how many people I’m taking care of?”

Mary Amaechi passed away in July at age 89. Amaechi is running alongside presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 election, drawing heavily on his extensive background in public office.
