Troy Parrott punishes Real Madrid as Betis hand Mourinho first defeat

Real Madrid suffered their first defeat of the 2026-27 season after falling to a 1-0 loss against Real Betis on Friday night. Jude Bellingham also threatened from a corner as Real Madrid struggled to turn their dominance into goals. Betis improved after the break and eventually took the lead in the 81st minute when Troy Parrott followed up after Thibaut Courtois had saved Nelson Deossa’s header. Madrid appeared to equalise moments later through Carlos Espi, but VAR ruled out the goal for offside.

The visitors were then handed a chance to rescue a point when Vinicius won a stoppage-time penalty. However, Mbappe’s poorly placed effort was comfortably saved by Alvaro Valles. Despite apparent encroachment during the rebound, no retake was awarded, leaving Madrid with their first loss under Jose Mourinho and potentially three points behind Barcelona.
