Trump admin moves to scrap 60-day grace period for H-1B visa holders
The Trump administration is preparing to propose a rule eliminating the 60-day grace period that allows H-1B and other visa holders to remain in the US after losing their job, according to Fox News.
The proposal, from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the Department of Homeland Security, would require noncitizens to leave immediately once employment tied to their visa ends.
DHS argued the change would restore the link between a visa holder’s status and their specific job, reduce administrative burden, and favor American workers by limiting employer access to foreign labor. The rule is scheduled to publish Friday, followed by a two-month public comment period.
