Trump announces executive order to rename AI as ‘super intelligence’

US President Donald Trump has announced plans to sign a “very powerful” executive order on “super intelligence,” as his administration promotes a new approach to artificial intelligence.

Speaking Tuesday, Trump said the term “super intelligence,” or SI, better reflects the technology’s potential than artificial intelligence. According to The Daily Signal, Trump said he had discussed the concept with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“This isn’t; this is extreme intelligence,” Trump said. “It’s superior intelligence. It’s supreme, also intelligence, but the word ‘super’ is the best word of all, and it’s the simplest.”

Brendan Steinhauser, CEO of the Alliance for Secure AI, cautioned that the terminology could create confusion.

“I do think it could blur the lines between what we have now and what we may have a year from now, or two years from now, or five years from now,” he said.

Trump also unveiled America.gov, an AI-powered website designed to help citizens access federal services.

He said he would sign another executive order directing federal agencies to integrate public-facing services with the platform as quickly as possible.
