Trump casts doubt on Vance’s 2028 presidential bid after midterm defeat
President Donald Trump has expressed uncertainty over whether Vice President JD Vance will run for president in 2028, following the Republican Party’s heavy defeat in the midterm elections, News18 reports.
“You can have people running. You can have a lot of people. Maybe or a lot of people are running. Maybe nobody’s going to run. Maybe he won’t run. I don’t know who’s going to run,” Trump told reporters at the White House.
His remarks came hours after Vance blamed the US-Israel war against Iran for the losses on X.
“The real reason we lost is obvious to almost everyone,” Vance wrote. “The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night.”
Trump acknowledged the war hurt the party by pushing up petrol prices but defended it.
“I can tell you that as far as that war is concerned, I would have done nothing different,” he said.
Democrats won control of both the House and Senate.
