Trump hails Haley Stevens’ ‘bravery’ for backing Rogers over El-Sayed
President Donald Trump has praised Michigan Democrat Rep. Haley Stevens after she said she is backing Republican Mike Rogers over fellow Democrat Abdul El-Sayed in the state’s US Senate race, Breitbart reports.
In a Truth Social post on Sunday, Trump said Stevens “has just ENDORSED Mike Rogers for Senate!” He called her move an act of bravery and said she is widely respected in Michigan.
Stevens narrowly lost the Democratic primary to El-Sayed. Breitbart reported that relations soured after she urged him to disavow an anti-Israel ad, and his campaign reportedly told her to stay away from its remaining events. Her fiancé, who is Jewish, also said he would vote for Rogers.
Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said Senate Democrats are united behind El-Sayed and accused Republicans of false, Islamophobic attacks on him.
