Trump loses final appeal over $5.6m payment to E. Jean Carroll

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday turned away President Donald Trump’s effort to deny a $5.6 million payment ordered after a jury found he sexually abused and defamed writer E. Jean Carroll.

The court had already denied Trump’s appeal in June, and justices declined a rehearing request, with no noted dissents. Trump had already paid the sum under a lower court order.

The case stems from Carroll’s 2022 lawsuit; a separate 2019 case, which produced an $83 million judgment against Trump, remains pending before the court.

According to CNN, Trump’s legal team called the case a “witch hunt.”
