TUC rejects NLC’s indefinite strike in FCT, directs members to work

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has directed its members to disregard the indefinite strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and report to work.

According to Channels Television, the TUC announced its position on Thursday, saying it was neither consulted nor involved in the decision to embark on industrial action.

The NLC had directed public and private sector workers to begin an indefinite strike on October 7 over a dispute involving the FCT Administration and the Nigeria Union of Teachers.

“We took no part in the meeting that produced it, and we did not take part in the decision to call a strike. Accordingly, the TUC FCT is not a party to the said industrial action,” the council stated.

The union warned against intimidating members into joining the strike and urged dialogue to resolve the dispute without disrupting children’s education.
