Tupac Shakur murder: Keffe D gets 40 years to life in prison
A Las Vegas court on Tuesday sentenced Duane “Keffe D” Davis to 40 years to life in prison for orchestrating the 1996 murder of rap star Tupac Shakur, CNN reports.
Judge Carli Kierny said: “You don’t get to take a man from his family. You don’t get to take his very life, his whole future from him, and just walk away from it. Especially when that man is Tupac Shakur.”
Davis, a former leader of the Southside Compton Crips, was found guilty of first-degree murder on August 31. He has 731 days’ credit for time served and remains the only person charged over the killing.
Prosecutors did not argue that Davis pulled the trigger. They said he orchestrated the shooting in retaliation after a fight between Shakur’s entourage and his nephew, Orlando Anderson, at the MGM Grand. Shakur, 25, was shot on September 7, 1996, and died six days later.
Shakur’s sister, Sekyiwa Shakur, told the court: “My brother was born an icon. He was born a legend.”
His stepbrother, Maurice “Mopreme” Shakur, said: “All Pac got was a death sentence.”
