Two dead as Saudi tanker comes under attack in Strait of Hormuz
Two Filipino sailors died after unidentified projectiles struck a Saudi oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, according to Vanguard News, which cited Saudi shipping firm Bahri. The company confirmed its vessel, SIDR, was hit while transiting the strait on Monday.
A Greek maritime risk firm had earlier reported the incident, as fresh hostilities escalated between the United States and Iran. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards separately reported two tankers catching fire after hitting mines in the same waterway. The six-month conflict continues, with Iran blockading the strait and Washington enforcing a counter-blockade of Iranian ports.
