Two dead, three officers wounded in downtown Minneapolis apartment building shooting—suspect killed
Two people are dead and three police officers are among at least six wounded after a gunman opened fire in a downtown Minneapolis apartment building on Wednesday afternoon — with the suspect killed at the scene, according to CNN.
Officers responded to a 911 call about shots fired at the building just after 4:30 p.m. and entered three minutes later to find victims inside the high-rise on East Grant Street. Three officers were injured, including two from gunshot wounds — all three in stable condition, according to Hennepin County Medical Center.
The FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives confirmed their agents were responding to the scene. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said his public safety team was responding. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said neighbouring police agencies and the Minnesota State Patrol were working closely with the Minneapolis Police Department.
The surrounding area includes the Loring Towers apartment complex, the Minneapolis Convention Center, hotels and a hospital. Police asked residents to avoid the area as the investigation continued into the evening.
