UK creates 100 new training places for aspiring criminal lawyers
The United Kingdom Government has announced £1.5m in annual funding to create 100 additional training places for aspiring criminal barristers, according to a Punch report. The scheme, launched Tuesday, will fund pupillages offering practical training, mentoring and supervision needed to qualify as criminal barristers.
Courts Minister Sarah Sackman said the initiative would open opportunities to talented people from all backgrounds. The Criminal Bar Association and Bar Council welcomed the move, saying it would strengthen the pipeline of junior advocates and help tackle Britain’s Crown Court backlog while improving diversity within the profession.
