UK Home Office permits asylum seekers to stay with family, friends
The UK Home Office has issued new guidance allowing asylum seekers with friends or family in the country to stay with them instead of in official accommodation, according to a PUNCH report. The four-page leaflet, published Wednesday, states the arrangement won’t affect asylum application outcomes, and eligible applicants will still receive weekly financial support.
Those wishing to move must first confirm space with their host, then contact Migrant Help to process the request before relocating. The Home Office warned that moving without notification could jeopardise financial support. The guidance is part of wider reforms to reduce reliance on asylum hotels.
