UK Royal Mail plans to cut 2,500 jobs in 2027
Royal Mail has announced plans to cut 2,500 jobs in 2027 as it restructures operations amid declining demand for letter deliveries and delivery pressures.
According to Peoples Gazette, the cuts represent about two per cent of Royal Mail’s workforce of more than 130,000 employees and are expected to come through voluntary resignations and redundancies.
“These proposed changes remove duplication and allow us to invest further in the service we deliver for our customers,” CEO Alistair Cochrane said.
“The proposed changes will not be easy, but they are an important part of building a stronger, simpler and future-ready Royal Mail for our customers and colleagues.”
Royal Mail said it was consulting the Communication Workers Union and Unite CMA over the proposals.
The CWU described the cuts as “further evidence of a company that is demoralising staff and failing to deliver for customers and the wider community.”
Deputy general secretary Martin Walsh urged the government to intervene to protect the postal institution.
