Ukraine considers legalising pornography as government seeks new war funding
Ukraine is considering legalising and taxing its adult-content industry as authorities seek additional revenue to support the country’s war effort against Russia, The Wall Street Journal reports.
A bill backed by lawmaker Yaroslav Zhelezniak has passed its first reading in Parliament. Supporters estimate that bringing the industry into the legal tax system could generate up to $25 million annually, potentially providing funds for military needs.
The proposal comes as Ukraine faces significant financial pressures from the prolonged war. The Wall Street Journal reports that the industry currently operates largely outside the formal economy, creating legal and tax complications.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has also indicated that Parliament will consider the issue following a public petition.
The proposal remains subject to further parliamentary consideration and has generated debate over regulation, taxation and the treatment of existing adult-content creators.
