Ukrainians forced to eat grass, dogs as Russian forces allegedly trap 2,000 civilians
Thousands of Ukrainians trapped in Russian-occupied Oleshky are reportedly surviving on boiled grass and dogs amid severe food shortages, drone attacks and restricted access to medical care.
According to The Sun, approximately 2,000 civilians, including 50 children, remain trapped in the city, which previously housed 24,000 residents.
Ukrainian lawmaker Lesia Vasylenko accused Russian forces of using civilians as human shields and preventing evacuations.
“2,000 people are trapped and are being used as human shields and hostages by the Russian military. No one is allowed in, no one is allowed out.”
Residents reportedly face starvation, shortages of drinking water and electricity, and limited healthcare access.
Humanitarian workers described a heavily mined escape route as the “road of death”, warning that civilians risk drone attacks while fleeing.
Ukraine reportedly delivered 4,000 kilograms of food using drones in September.
Meanwhile, humanitarian organisations have called for urgent intervention to protect trapped civilians and restore access to essential supplies.
