United States urges citizens to reconsider travel to Kenya amid rising Ebola cases
The United States has raised its travel advisory for Kenya to Level 3, urging citizens to “reconsider” travel following the country’s first-ever Ebola outbreak, which has reached eight confirmed cases, according to a report by Vanguard.
The outbreak began when a Kenyan businessman living in the Democratic Republic of Congo—where an epidemic has killed over 4,000 people—returned home in early October via Uganda and died in Nairobi on October 5. Subsequent cases include close relatives, medical support staff, and treating healthcare workers.
While health authorities have traced and quarantined nearly all identified contacts, the U.S. embassy noted that the advisory shift accounts for health risks alongside existing safety concerns. Kenya’s health ministry confirmed that quarantined patients remain in stable condition as containment efforts continue nationwide.
