US court slams Meta with $567m fine over child safety
A US court in New Mexico has ordered Meta to pay $567 million and restrict certain features for children on Facebook and INSTAGRAM, ruling the company created a “public nuisance” that endangered young users.
According to Punch Newspapers, the ruling adds to a $375 million fine imposed in March in the same case. Judge Bryan Biedscheid ordered Meta to cap under-18 usage at 90 hours monthly, hide “like” counts, and block certain notifications during school hours. Meta said it disagreed with the ruling and would appeal.
