Teacher faces five years in prison after having baby with 13-year-old student

A former American teacher, Laura Caron, 36, has pleaded guilty to child endangerment involving sexual conduct after allegedly giving birth to a child fathered by her former 13-year-old student.

According to the Daily Star, Caron entered her plea on Wednesday in Cape May County, New Jersey.

Prosecutors alleged that the relationship began in 2016 when the boy was 11 and continued until he turned 15.

Caron reportedly became pregnant when the boy was 13 and delivered their daughter in 2019.

The case emerged in December 2024 after the boy’s father noticed similarities between the child and his family in a Facebook photograph.

Although the former student reportedly claimed he initiated the relationship, prosecutors proceeded with the case.

Under the plea agreement, Caron faces five years’ imprisonment, forfeiture of her teaching licence and lifetime parole supervision.

She must also register as a sex offender.

Her sentencing is scheduled for January 8, 2027.
