US visa doesn’t guarantee entry into America — US Mission

The United States Mission in Nigeria has warned travellers that possessing a valid American visa does not automatically guarantee entry into the country.

According to Tribune Online, the mission issued the clarification through its official X account, @USinNigeria, as part of its public awareness campaign on immigration regulations.

It explained that a visa only permits travellers to reach a US port of entry, where immigration authorities determine their eligibility for admission.

“A U.S. visa does not guarantee entry into the United States. It lets you travel to a U.S. port of entry. When you arrive, U.S. Customs and Border Protection decides whether you may enter,” the mission stated.

The clarification emphasised the distinction between obtaining travel authorisation and receiving permission to enter American territory.

Using the hashtags #VisaWise and #TravelSmart, the mission encouraged travellers to familiarise themselves with immigration requirements.

It reiterated that US Customs and Border Protection officers retain final authority over admission decisions at border checkpoints.
