Van Dijk hails Liverpool’s resurgence after Chelsea win, responds to Emegha shove
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk believes the feel-good factor is returning to Anfield following the Reds’ penalty shoot-out victory over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup fourth round on Wednesday.
According to the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool won 6-5 on penalties after a 1-1 draw, securing their fifth consecutive victory across all competitions and a quarter-final meeting with Bournemouth.
Van Dijk praised the supporters’ contribution, saying: “I think the fans definitely like what they’re seeing and, of course, you feel that energy and it’s great.” The Dutch defender also addressed an incident in which Chelsea substitute Emmanuel Emegha shoved him to the ground off the ball without being penalised.
Asked about the incident, Van Dijk replied: “Ask him. I don’t know.” He added: “Maybe he’s trying to get into the national team as well and trying this way. I don’t know. You have to ask him. When he comes by, just ask him.” Liverpool now turn their attention to Sunday’s Premier League clash against Arsenal at Anfield.
