“We all feel attacked” – Somali community fumes at Trump over Ilhan Omar raid
Members of Minnesota’s Somali community, including Minneapolis City Council Vice President Jamal Osman, have criticised President Donald Trump after federal agents raided the Washington, D.C. home of Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar on Monday, according to Fox News Digital.
Homeland Security Investigations agents executed a search warrant at the congresswoman’s home. Sources said the raid stems from an investigation into whether Omar or her late father fraudulently filled out her citizenship paperwork decades ago, which could lead to her denaturalization. The Wall Street Journal reported that her phone, passport and computers were seized.
“Somalis — we all feel attacked by President Trump,” said Osman, who was born in Somalia. He added: “We’re American citizens like everyone else.”
Osman insisted there is due process. “He can’t say he’s gonna deport her, he’s gonna deport me, thousands of Somalis,” he said. His message to the president was simple: “Stop it.”
The White House pointed Fox News Digital to Trump’s public reaction to the raid. “I think she’s a terrible person, but that’s really up to the DOJ. I have nothing to do with it,” Trump said.
Omar called the raid “an outrageous abuse of power.” She has not been seen since.
