‘We don’t want bloodshed’: Davido writes Trump, cites fears of violence, intimidation over Osun election
Nigerian music star Davido has directly appealed to US President Donald Trump and the international community to closely monitor Saturday’s Osun State governorship election, citing fears of violence, intimidation and electoral manipulation as his uncle Governor Ademola Adeleke seeks re-election.
In a statement posted on his official X account on Wednesday, Davido tagged Trump and urged international attention on the August 15 poll. “We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election,” he wrote.
Vanguard reports that the Grammy-nominated artist appealed for voter protection and transparency, saying “Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear.”
The appeal follows Davido’s earlier public confrontation with Imo Governor Hope Uzodimma — who chairs the APC national campaign council for the Osun election — over alleged plans to disrupt the poll.
