We won’t approve Tinubu’s loans without scrutiny — Oshiomhole
Senator Adams Oshiomhole has declared that the National Assembly will not automatically approve President Bola Tinubu’s fresh foreign loan requests without thorough scrutiny.
According to Daily Post, Oshiomhole made the statement on Friday during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show.
The former Edo State governor was reacting to Tinubu’s request for legislative approval to secure $20.5 billion and €1.04 billion in external loans to finance critical projects nationwide.
Oshiomhole insisted that lawmakers must examine how previous borrowings were utilised and assess the proposed projects before granting approval.
“The Senate will scrutinise Tinubu’s fresh loan request. We won’t just approve it like that. We must look at it properly and ensure it is in the interest of Nigerians,” he said.
The Edo North senator assured Nigerians that the Senate, under Godswill Akpabio, would not operate as a rubber stamp.
His remarks come amid growing public concerns over Nigeria’s rising debt burden and the Federal Government’s continued reliance on external borrowing.
