‘We won’t miss Uber’ — Nigerian drivers, passengers speak out after exit
According to a Peoples Gazette report, Nigerian drivers and passengers say Uber’s exit after 12 years will barely disrupt their routines, since most are already signed onto rival apps like Bolt, inDrive and Rida. Drivers cited Uber’s lower 25% commission compared to Bolt’s 35%, but said sparse ride requests reduced its appeal. One driver, Sinachi Nnadozie, said the same people simply use different apps.
Passenger Bettie John called Uber “unnecessarily pricey” and said she won’t miss it. Uber, which also left Uganda the same day amid global layoffs of 3,300 jobs, said it remains committed to Africa, citing markets like Kenya, Ghana and South Africa.
