Who is in charge of Nigeria? Atiku queries Tinubu’s extended absence

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has questioned who is constitutionally exercising presidential authority in Nigeria following President Bola Tinubu’s extension of his working vacation in Europe.

According to Vanguard, Atiku said Tinubu’s three-week vacation had expired and asked whether the President transmitted a written declaration to the National Assembly empowering Vice President Kashim Shettima to act as President.

Citing Section 145 of the 1999 Constitution, Atiku urged the Presidency to publish any such letter and asked lawmakers to clarify whether they received it.

He also raised concerns that Tinubu and Shettima are abroad, with Shettima attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The Presidency said Tinubu remains in charge and is expected to return home at the weekend.
