Why mosquitoes prefer biting some people over others
According to a HuffPost report, experts say several biological factors determine why mosquitoes bite some people more than others.
A Journal of Medical Entomology study found mosquitoes land on people with blood Type O nearly twice as often as Type A, while entomologist Jonathan Day noted carbon dioxide output, lactic acid, dark clothing and body heat all serve as cues. Dermatologist Melissa Piliang added that alcohol, pregnancy, exercise and higher metabolic rates increase attractiveness to the insects.
To prevent bites, experts recommend avoiding dawn and dusk activity, wearing light, breathable clothing, and using DEET-based repellents, which the EPA has confirmed are safe for regular use.
