Willian slams Arteta over ‘broken promises’ after admitting leaving Chelsea was a ‘big mistake’
Former Arsenal winger Willian has accused Mikel Arteta of making promises that were not fulfilled during his troubled spell at the Emirates, admitting he made a “big mistake” by leaving Chelsea. Speaking on The Obi One Podcast, as reported by Football365, Willian said Arteta told him he would be the “main guy” and that Arsenal would build the team around him.
However, the Brazil international quickly became frustrated after joining on a three-year deal in 2020. Willian left after just one season, later admitting he regretted leaving Chelsea and insisting his unhappiness affected his performances despite having the best contract of his career.
