World’s third-smallest country Nauru renamed Naoero

The Pacific island nation of Nauru has officially changed its name to the Republic of Naoero, President David Adeang announced, reflecting the country’s traditional pronunciation, the AP reports. Its international code shifts from NRU to NRO, joining nations like Eswatini and Türkiye in moving away from colonial-era names without holding a public referendum.
