Yesufu, Obi in silent rift over failed senatorial ticket bid

According to The Nation, a silent but bruising rift is brewing within the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) between presidential candidate Peter Obi and his longtime ally, Aisha Yesufu.

The report said Yesufu, a vocal Obi supporter since 2023, followed him from the Labour Party to the ADC and then the NDC, but was denied the party’s FCT senatorial ticket, which went instead to a lesser-known aspirant.

The paper said Yesufu has since declined to join Obi’s 2027 campaign train and is reportedly unable to understand why Obi did not push for his loyalists in ticket allocations, unlike running mate Rabiu Kwankwaso.
