2027: Atiku, ADC absent as Tinubu, Obi, others sign peace accord
President Bola Tinubu and several presidential candidates have signed the first National Peace Accord ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, while Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress were absent.
According to Nigerian Tribune, the accord commits candidates and parties to peaceful, issue-based campaigns, respect for electoral institutions and avoidance of hate speech and violence.
The agreement was signed in Abuja ahead of the official campaign season.
Peter Obi, Adewole Adebayo and Omoyele Sowore were among those represented.
INEC chairman Joash Amupitan urged candidates to focus on policies, warning against misinformation, inflammatory rhetoric and political intimidation during the election period.
