What happens when a SpaceX rocket smashes into the Moon?
A discarded upper stage from a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket is set to strike the Moon on Wednesday, near the Einstein Crater, NASA’s Center for Near-Earth Object Studies confirmed. Travelling at roughly 5,400mph, the debris—about the size of a five-storey building—poses no danger to Earth. Astronomers expect the impact to create a crater over 17m wide and offer rare scientific insight into lunar subsurface material.
