FUTA workers block VC’s office, demand unpaid allowances
Workers at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), on Thursday protested at the Vice-Chancellor’s office over unpaid allowances.
According to Punch Newspapers, members of the National Association of Non-Teaching Staff of Nigerian Universities, FUTA chapter, alleged the institution paid the Consolidated Tools Tertiary Institutions Allowance and End Allowances to other unions but excluded them.
Union chairman Adebayo Aladerotohun issued a seven-day ultimatum, threatening legal action if unresolved. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Taiwo Amos urged calm, saying management was engaging the union’s executive and would ensure no one was shortchanged.
