Xabi Alonso expresses interest in Martin Zubimendi as Chelsea explores move

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has reportedly asked the club to explore a move for Arsenal midfielder Martin Zubimendi ahead of the new season.

According to The Football Faithful on Yahoo Sports, Alonso remains a long-time admirer of the Spain international, having coached him at Real Sociedad B. Arsenal are not expected to entertain offers after signing Zubimendi last summer, although Chelsea have identified him as a potential midfield target.

The Gunners are also closing in on Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes, which could reshape their midfield options before the transfer window closes.
