Rescued Kwara nurse reveals how she delivered 10 babies without gloves in terror camp
Kwara State nurse Amirah Salihu, rescued after nearly six months in terrorist captivity following the February 3 attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area, has revealed that she delivered 10 babies with her bare hands while held hostage — initially hiding her profession from her captors.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, as reported by Tribune, Salihu — daughter of Woro community chief Umar Salihu — described surviving on unseasoned corn, sleeping beside a river in the rain and being forbidden from lighting fires.
“They asked of nurse, ‘Is there any nurse with us?’ I said no… I helped like 10 women for the delivery, without gloves. I used my hands to help them,” she said.
After discovering she was a nurse, the terrorists attempted to persuade her to remain — a request she refused, determined to return home.
