EU refutes claims of turning down INEC’s 2027 election invite

The EU Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS has denied reports that it rejected INEC’s invitation to observe the 2027 general elections, according to Tribune Online.

EU Ambassador Gautier Mignot said the bloc accepted the invitation on July 28 and will deploy an Electoral Expert Mission of two to four independent experts to assess Nigeria’s electoral process.

He dismissed claims that security concerns or past friction over the EU’s 2023 election report influenced the decision, calling them speculation, and urged journalists to verify reports with the EU’s press office before publication.
