Nigerian onion traders suspend onion shipments to Ghana over trade row
Nigerian onion traders have suspended exports to Ghana and called for ECOWAS intervention as a trade dispute between the two countries deepens, according to Nairametrics. NOPMAN President Alhaji Aliyu Maitasamu said the suspension would remain until both governments reach an agreement on trade rules, warning of economic losses across the onion supply chain.
The move follows a similar April 2026 suspension over alleged harassment and truck seizures in Accra. The dispute comes as onion prices in Nigeria surged 40% month-on-month in July, driven by seasonal shortages and heavy rainfall.
