Sheikh Gumi says it’s in order to sponsor mass marriages with public funds, gives reasons
Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has argued that governments operating under Shariah law should use public funds to support marriage arrangements for people unable to afford them.
According to Daily Post, Gumi made the assertion in a Facebook post on Thursday, saying such intervention was part of responsible governance in societies where sexual relationships outside marriage are prohibited.
According to Gumi’s Facebook post, public resources could support young people in urgent need of marriage and women facing limited opportunities to find suitable spouses.
He argued that government assistance was justified where prostitution, fornication, adultery and promiscuity were prohibited by religious principles and state laws, describing marriage support as a legitimate component of governance.
